Why do my parents always talk about people behind their backs? Do any of your parents do it and what do you think about it? It annoys me so bad.

So my parents think it’s okay to constantly talk about people behind their backs, and make racist comments, fat shaming comments, homophobic comments etc. Then they tell me that it’s okay because we’re saying stuff at home and we’re not saying it to anyone’s face. This is so wrong I can’t understand their logic.
They are really kind and caring parents but that really pisses me off and them being kind people doesn’t excuse the fact that they say all this stuff and constantly gossip and hate on people. I don’t know if they realise that they are allowing me to hear this, like is this how they want me to behave to cus I definitely won’t it’s so so wrong and I don’t believe that what they’re saying is right at all.
And they they say to me that when I am their age, I will talk like that too and it’s normal to do that. So do they mean that it’s normal to be racist cus I’m so lost and I cant see my parents thinking like that, they are so kind to me, but then they do this. I’m so conflicted guys. What do you think? Could you answer my questions please? I need advice.

They are jaded.
Judge people how they treat you.
A bad example is still an example you can learn from.
And lastly, Americans are so sheltered and spoiled we have nothing real to talk about so we fill our time with gossip. Good or bad.
