It's so disappointing how immoral and unpatriotic Republicans are today. They get on boards like these and all they have to say is that these hearings are meaningless because they're getting "poor" ratings and might not lead to a criminal indictment of they president. They are not all all concerned about the fact that their president and countless Republican politicians attempted to overthrow democracy, shit on the Constitution, dishonor every serviceman who gave his life defending democracy, and tear apart the country in a multi-year propaganda campaign all to stay in power. They don't give one shit that the most precious element of America upon which all else is built, democracy, was thrown under the bus and a third world coup was attempted in the country that they call home. Good god, the GOP is lost.

We've been looking at an endless line of testimony, by pretty much nothing but Republicans in Trump's immediate orbit, stating chapter and verse that Trump and his supporters in the GOP were knowingly lying to the people of America, trying to strong arm election officials, and engaging in activities that the top Republican legal advisors had told them was patently illegal, unconstitutional, and immoral. We've seen the very inner circle of Trump tell us how all the conspiracy theories about a stolen election, conspiracy theories still repeated here and by Republican officials across the country, were all investigated and debunked. We're seeing testimony about how Trump was trying to appoint as acting AG (his third in two weeks) an absolutely unqualified ambulance chaser who had no other qualifications for the job other than being the only man that Trump could find who was willing to say whatever Trump wanted to hear. Bottom line, these hearings are absolutely damning of Trump and much of the GOP, but some people here and elsewhere don't give a shit because they don't see an absolute endgame. Jesus, how far the GOP has fallen. Nixon was guilty of far less, but at least Republicans back then saw a point to an investigation of apparent crimes by an administration. They made time to tune in, and they even were generally open to being swayed by facts and logic. But the GOP of today? They don't give a shit because they've become power hungry nihilists for whom the end always justifies the means.

I'm a Conservative Republican, BUT I'm no Trump kool-aid drinker. He's a fucking egotistical asshole and the biggest mistake the Republican Party ever made. I want a republican in the White House, but not him. I believe in the core values of the party, but there are plenty of other candidates to represent us. I've watched these hearings and was surprised, not shocked, by what other republicans in his own circle had to testify about. I can't understand why he's so revered by his cult of followers. The guy lost the election. He worked for over two months to find a way to turn over the outcome. All of it bullshit or outright illegal. Wake up you Trump sucking loyalists. He's a Lying Fucking criminal blowhard who isn't even good enough to lick the sweat off my balls. I only hope he never has another shot at running for office.

But you dumbasses are too stupid to recognize it because all of you get worthless information from CNN. ”

Impeachment prove that Trump committed the crimes that he was accused of and Republicans broke the law and should be thrown in jail you are lucky that Biden is not as stupid as Trump and just starts arresting you!

I really wonder if all the Republicans who spent months online defending one bizarre conspiracy theory after the next feels in any way used or idiotic now that everyone around Trump is giving testimony saying that all of it was bullshit and that Trump and other Republicans who were pushing these theories KNEW that they were bullshit, but were just using them in their campaign of fear and outrage in order to steal an election. When they think back about all of their lengthy posts about dead people voting, and boxes of fake votes, and rigged election machines, do they even cringe a little when the people who know best about those things and investigated each and every one of those claims gets up in from of Congress and states unequivocally that it was just nonsense used to deceive the feeble minded?

Does the irony set upon them that they've been utterly incensed for months if not years about the Dems attempting to steal an election when it was actually the Republicans who were committing fraud and trying to steal it? My guess is, no. My guess is that they're not watching any of this unfold and that their media sources aren't faithfully relaying any of this seemingly endless testimony to them.

For the same reason why many didn't answer your similarly ridiculous questions about all the voter fraud that you alleged. You can't be bothered to ever fact check yourself, and then even if someone does it for you, you just move onto the next thread and pretend that those questions are still meaningful and representative of reality.

Let's take the National Guard question, as that's a big meme in Republican circles. Please provide proof that either Trump requested the 10-20K troops that is always alleged. Please then provide proof that Pelosi denied it. I think that you'll find the same level of proof as all the election fraud theories that you traffic in - a lot of echo chamber bullshit on far right conspiracy sites, but nothing even approaching verifiable evidence. But that won't matter to you because you have your questions, the same questions that you probably still have about foreigners and children voting. I suspect that even if there was a Congressional hearing and 50 Republicans testified that Trump didn't request the troops and that Pelosi didn't deny the request, you would STILL believe what you like because that's just who you are.

But the speaker of the House does not control the National Guard. And while Congress could have requested support in advance, that decision lies with the Capitol Police Board, not the speaker.

Members of the Capitol Police board have provided conflicting accounts of a debate that occurred on Jan. 4 over whether to request the help in advance. Steven A. Sund, then the chief of Capitol Police, has said he asked the board for the pre-emptive assistance but was rebuffed.

Among the reasons cited, Mr. Sund said, was a concern by the House sergeant-at-arms, Paul D. Irving, about the “optics” of bringing in reinforcements. Ms. Stefanik falsely attributed that concern to Ms. Pelosi, whose aides have said she only learned of the request days later."

So then, for you, in order for a congressional hearing to be assembled to look into the first attempted coup in American history and the destruction of democracy in America, we would first have to do a thorough investigation into whether some cops aided the rioters? And btw, how do you know that this is not currently being investigated?

You're throwing out claims, claims that are at least in part undone by pretty much every fact check site in existence, and seeingly making some kind of super vague implication that these "facts" somehow impugn the 1/6 hearings. “So you don't think overturning a free and fair election would be the end of American democracy? How does that logic work?”

Open a history book and see how democracies die. There's usually one party that erodes faith in institutions, then eventually rises to power, often through fear mongering and pseudo-legal means, takes control of the highest offices, then changes the laws to ensure that they never leave power.

Trump contended that his VP had the Constitutional power to "overturn" (his word) the election and install him as president regardless of the will of the people. If that happened, that would have legitimated (at least for the Republicans) the power of the VP to do that going forward. They may have even enshrined it in law. If that were the case, as Trump alleged it to already be, how is that democracy? Further, is that not a means to ensure that the party in control will never leave power again, unless they so chose? And why would they choose otherwise? The ethos of the Republican party today is that if they lose, the election MUST have been rigged. You can even see that going on in primaries where at least one or two Republicans are saying that other Republican candidate rigged the election because they lost. For many Republicans today, losing an election is never legitimate but always proof of fraud. The irony here is that our worst enemies, such as Russia, have been trying to sew this kind of chaos, doubt, and distrust of our institutions for decades but it took Trump and his supporters in the GOP to actually pull it off.

Btw, are you watching the hearings? I can't imagine so because it is clearly being demonstrated that Trump and his cadre systematically undermined many levels of our democracy to try to ensure the success of his coup, And as judge Luttig (lifelong, steadfast Republican, GOP luminary, and occasional shortlist for a Republican Supreme Count nominee) pointed out in his testimony, Trump and his GOP cadre STILL post a "clear and present danger" to democracy in the US because they learned from their mistakes the first time around and are preparing for success at a second coup attempt in 2024. To go back to the history angle and the death of democracies, a common joke from historians is, "What do you call a failed coup?" "Practice." Almost always, if there is one coup, another will follow, and it's usually successful. Democracies are fragile things and the Republicans today are bulls in a china shop.

  • Commented Jun 24, 2022 02:50 by anonymous

Are Pence, Romney, Cheney, etc. not Republicans?
"There's usually one party that erodes faith in institutions-" like the party that pushed the Trump/Russia Collusion hoax?
Or the party that refuses to say they will not pack the Supreme Court?
Or is it the party that is opposed to voter ID laws?

“Open a history book and see how democracies die.

Did you reply to the wrong post? Because I completely agree with you. The GOP is a fascist party hellbent on destroying American democracy.

“Are Pence, Romney, Cheney, etc. not Republicans?
"There's usually one party that erodes faith in institutions-" like the party that pushed the Trump/Russia Collusion hoax?
Or the party that refuses to say they will not pack the Supreme Court?
Or is it the party that is opposed to voter ID laws?”

Imagine still thinking that Russian collusion was a hoax.

We know for a fact that the Trump campaign knew about and welcomed Russian interference in our election, and Trump himself obstructed justice at least 10 times in an attempt to cover it up.

Everybody with a triple digit iq knows democrats have cognitive dissonance, but what hurts my heart, is how many whites the TV has brainwashed and programmed. The problem isn't the niggers or hispanics or asians - it is the amount of self hating whites we have currently existing and actively working against interests of white people as a collective. Once we remedy that problem, the rest will fall into place, as it always has.

Chief, check that Russia "hoax". Several people in Trump's immediate orbit ended up in prison. Also, read the report. Check out all of the proven connections to Russia of several people in Trump's inner circle. The fact that Trump told you that he was exonerated is irrelevant because, if you learn anything from these hearings (and I'm sure that you're not) it's that Trump lies about everything and relies upon suckers like you to not investigate what he says. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Links_between_Trump_associates_and_Russian_officials

The Supreme court has been changed several times in the past, by both parties. The current state of things is that the SC has become a tool of the right with five of the nine "justices" being placed there by Republican presidents who have not won the popular vote. The SC has now essentially become a political arm of a party which is all about minoritarian rule and imposing their will even though it doesn't reflect the general will of the people. Take the probable repeal of Roe or the gun law issue from yesterday, more and more the group of people on that court are supporting the ideals of a party which are in stark contrast to what the majority of people want. Until fairly recently, the SC used to be held in high regard as an apolitical institution but is now viewed as a political tool - more erosion of trust in institutions. As mentioned, historically, this is part of how democracies die.

The majority of Democrats are FOR voter ID (again, you might want to do some research before you open your mouth) but are opposed to many of the very undemocratic games that Republicans play with them which seem to target groups who vote Dem. For example, there are states who require a state issued ID to vote, but for some reason won't take a state issued ID that's used for social services. You can vote with your gun permit, but not your permit for food assistance or housing. Dems also insist that voter ID laws be made so that assistance (financial or bureaucratic) be made available to people so that poverty, a lack of mobility, difficulty obtaining a copy of a birth record, etc) never be a barrier to exercising the most fundamental American right. The GOP usually will never support such measures, or they say that they will but never back it up with action.
