So, I may have lied to several customers today.......
It was a really boring afternoon at the grocery store. I literally had one customer in 20 minutes.
Anyways, it all started when my coworker who was helping me bag started talking to the customer we were helping about the cookies she bought.
It went something like this:
coworker: "Wait, ma'am, those are my all time favorite!!"
customer: "Oh, really? We love them, too. They should've been invented sooner."
coworker: "My dad brought them home one day, and I wasn't expecting them to be this good. I crumble them and put them in ice cream."
customer: "Oh, I should try that!"
coworker: "Yeah, they taste really good. I've had them so many times."
customer: "Well, thank you! I'll let my husband know that someone at \_\_\_\_ loves them!"
coworker: "Please do!"
\--------
After she left, I said to my coworker, "hmm, I've seen those come through the register and have always wanted to try them myself. they look good."
He said: "guess what?"
Me: "what?"
Him: "I wouldn't know?"
Me: "What do you mean?"
Him: "I've never had them."
\------
It took me a second, but then I started laughing. It was the funniest thing that had happened all day because we were so bored. It's normal for us to let customers know that an item they're buying is yummy, but this was a twist. The rest of the afternoon, me and a couple other coworkers would let customers know that they were buying our "all time favorite ice cream" or even bread. I even lied about a cereal that I absolutely hate being my absolute favorite. It kinda got boring after a while, and nothing is as funny as the first time. The way my coworker said it sounded so believable it was hilarious.
