Seizures and a sick kitten
It's really just been a shitty day
When I arrived at work, a coworker had found a tiny kitten, it couldn't have been more than 6 weeks old. We took it inside, gave it some food and water, the receptionist (we were in disability) said she would happily babysit it all day.
During my morning I was assisting a client transfer into her wheelchair. When she went to adjust herself in the chair, she began having a seizure.
Now I've worked in disability for years and seen many seizures but this was... Something else.
She seized for 10 minutes, thrashing around, eyes rolling, limbs shaking but it was the non responsiveness that really got to me. Constantly saying her name, trying to get her to respond to touch, trying anything to get her to come out of it. All I could do was wait and make sure she was secure in her chair
While this was happening, my boss called an ambulance. My client proceeded to have 4 more seizures in the time it took for the ambulance to arrive.
There's more to it but eventually she was taken to the hospital, I went down later in the day and they were keeping her overnight for observation.
When I returned to work the kitten wasn't doing well. Lethargic, shallow breathing, non responsive.
Co worker and I took the kitten to the vet when we had finished work. It was full of worms, temperature, completely dehydrated from being out in the elements before we found her and just overwell not well.
The vet said that with all the test and medication, it would cost well over $1000 after the treatment. We decided to surrender the kitten over, where they said they would take her to the pound. We called an hour later to see how she was and found out she had passed away. (Before anyone asks, they didn't euthanize the kitten.)
Its just been a horrible day and needed to vent
