Roommates: You've been paying most of my bills
I'm a really frugal guy. I read Barefoot Investor and it changed my life, so now I'm all about reducing my monthly costs as much as possible.
I moved to Sydney with a house of 4 people. When talking about bills I basically explained we can save heaps money by shopping around and swapping providers for internet/energy etc when good deals pop up. They argued against it, saying it was more effort than it was worth and that the time spent calling different providers could be better spent by working an extra hour and getting money that way.
Fuck that.
So, I'm in charge of the bills and everything and I just do things my way and let them pay what they think are the monthly charges. This month, for example, I got a few refer-a-friend bonuses that brought my internet bill down to $5 from $60. My room mates paid me $30 each, because they think the bill still costs $120 from our first provider.
For basically all my expenses I'm getting huge discounts from shopping around, and then more money because they're paying my "share"
I kinda feel bad but also lol why didnt you just accept cheaper stuff in the first place?
