Never mind that this man has been verbally and sometimes physically abusive my entire life. When his back started going out and he couldn’t work anymore, I picked up the slack, paid his bills, sent money whenever he needed it. Now six months later, and dealing with burnout on top of moving cities to escape a stalker ex, I need time off. I quit my job, I can’t give him any money right now. And of course now I’m an awful daughter. Me and my mom are plotting against him. Now my grandma and my cousin are blowing me up telling me “He’s your dad, you need to help him”

How about don’t make your only child, your single form of “retirement fund”? What the fuck am I supposed to do, just work for the rest of my life to provide him a place to live so he can sit and get belligerently drunk and smoke cigarettes until he dies?
