My parents will be paying $20,000 AUD a year for me to live somewhere for university and I feel kinda bad but I’m mostly okay with it.

Your parents have their issues, as do a lot of us. But they are willing to help you with your college costs. Be appreciative for this. They don't have to help you. The fact that they are helping you shows that they do care about you. And, you are right. The best thing is to lessen your contact with people who are emotionally abusive. They are your parents. You don't want to eliminate them from your life entirely. But less contact with them will be better. And, keep in mind that things like the emotional abuse can sometimes follow you. And you follow in the abuser's footsteps. It would probably be a good idea to talk to a counselor about it. Maybe you don't really need it. But it might help you too. Being busy with your studies and working are very justifiable reasons for not having a lot of time to spend with your parents.
