Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Bit of a backstory: I am a tall, willowy woman with small tits and a shaved head. Not bald, but when I visit the barber, it gets shorn to a #1. I also work in a male-dominated trade, and therefore am in work boots, jeans, and a t-shirt on a daily basis.
Tonight, I was taking down a show in a major transit hub. Nothing special, just a job. Around 1a, I had to pee like a racehorse so I visited the only open bathroom in the building. Immediately I was beset by the stench of BO. A couple homeless women had set up shop to clean themselves off and wash their clothes. Fine, whatever, a body's gotta do what a body's gotta do when put in that situation, and I'm certainly not one to judge. Did my business and headed out the door, when from behind me I hear, "um, this is a WOMAN'S bathroom."
Now, I get mistaken for a dude on almost a daily basis. It doesn't bother me generally, I am well aware I don't look the part when I'm heading to work, and it's damn cold out so being bundled up in my carhartt and hoodie hide what little "assets" I have. For some reason, though, this woman's comment bothered the hell out of me.
What business is it of yours which restroom I use in the first place? I know my gender. I am fully comfortable in my body. Even if I was trans, either presenting as male but not quite feeling confident enough to use the men's room, or just transitioned as female and finally feeling comfortable in the ladies room, who the fuck are you to judge? You don't know me, you don't know my story, you don't know my history. I didn't hold my nose as I walked through your frankly rank cloud of odor; I didn't ask the security guard to kick you out. You're judging me based on looks alone, and quite honestly, I take offense to that. Look to yourself, first, before you decide to take umbrage with someone else's decisions.
