Isn’t it strange how we have no defensive mechanism for letting someone so close to your heart?
Our skin is a protective barrier against foreign organisms. We have our immune system to defend against anything that’s entered our body. We have so many defensive mechanisms set up in place to help us survive, but why doesn’t one exist to stop someone getting so close to your heart, possibly the most important organ in the body?
Heartbreaks can be debilitating. It can completely destroy someone. It can make even the most level headed people irrational. It stops you from forcing down a meal, from going to work or other responsibilities you need to tend to. It brings your entire world to a screeching halt and all you can do is shut yourself in your room with the blinds drawn and make your way through day after agonizing day, waiting endlessly for that moment when the pain becomes bearable enough for you to start picking up the pieces again. It’s something that a lot of people experience, and it’s enough to make someone completely dysfunctional for days to weeks to months at times, and I really think we need a defense mechanism against something that can be so destructive.
