I lied about an injury in order to be eligible for Workers Comp
It was winter time, there was ice on the ground, I was walking around my truck in the yard while loading and slipped on the ice, fell on my leg and broke my ankle, required surgery and 4 months of recovery before I could return to work.
When it happened I wasn't wearing my steel toe, slip resistant boots. I was wearing my leather cowboy boots. I also wasn't wearing ice cleats as is company policy. I was working alone and was able to sneak away to where my work boots were and slip them on through great pain to myself. When the investigation was conducted they saw my cowboy boots on the floor of the truck, where I had cranked the heater to melt the snow and dry the water, and my work boots were with me on the way to the hospital so nobody thought that would have been the cause.
After the investigation was closed out I was told that because I was wearing all the PPE required, and still fell that I was eligible for workers compensation. I have finally healed up and continued working as I was previously, but if I hadn't I would have been bankrupt by last month.
