I feel like depression and anxiety are used as an excuse. How come almost everyone deals with this? Everyone is depressed and and everyone has anxiety?

Its not that easy. Sometimes it comes on and you have no idea why. You'll be fine one minute and the next minute your having some kind of attack. Im one that pretty much does things like your talking about however I do take some anti depressants because I have a "short fuse". It does seem to be abused like your talking about and I wouldnt be surrprised if making money isnt involved.

I think the thing that people mistake depression for is a sadness when, in actuality, it is more complicated than that. When I was depressed in college because of all the stress and overworking myself, I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. I was so numb to emotion that there were times when I didn’t care about stuff like eating three meals a day or even if I got hit by a car. Nothing mattered anymore. Anti-depressants have been very helpful to balance my mood out once I started taking them so depression is no longer a problem. Anxiety, however, is something I have always lived with. Being in social situations is nerve wracking when you are constantly worried about every decision you make and playing the worst-case scenarios out in your head. And I think that the number of people with depression or anxiety hasn’t changed, but rather people are more open talking about mental health and connecting with each other for support.

There is a fixation some people have that something must be wrong and so must be fixed, and a whole unethical private medical industry built around catering to such fear and paranoia for the sole purpose of making money. It is merely that old time snake oil salesman grown large.

As someone w really bad anxiety, we sometimes worry about small things like talking to people but also a million other things such as car accidents, disease, family member dying, poverty, assault and so on. It's constant.

There is more suffering going on than you know, prove of that is the level of dysfunction in our modern world. No one is listening to one another. So is it really that everyone is weak or that society doesn't want change even when there is a problem. If things were fine, people would be fine.
