I feel like a loser because all of my friends are going off to college and moving into dorms and meeting new people, while I'm stuck staying at home and going to a community college, in a city that I've practically lived my whole life in.

Don't feel that way and I'll tell you why. I stayed in town and went to a community college while most of my friends and the people I graduated HS with went off to a university somewhere. 10 years after HS graduation I've got a steady job make more money than half of them and with no student loan debts. 20 years after HS graduation I'm bringing in a six figure income and 90% of them aren't. Half of them are working shit jobs that have nothing to do with their degree. I ended up being a lot more successful than the majority of them. I have the house which is paid off, the 2 cars, a truck, a boat, a beautiful wife I've been married to for almost 30 years and two kids who are successful in their own right. As for my classmates. 3 of them committed suicide. 1 of them drowned drunk in a hot tub that was on the patio of his ex-wife's house. 2 of them died as a result of alcoholism and 4 of them overdosed on cocaine and other assorted shit. You're not a loser at all. Go to the CC, learn what you can, apply yourself to your chosen profession and you'll be as successful, if not more so, than your classmates and friends.

Same experience as the other poster. Although I went to a cc in a new town by a ski resort at Lake Tahoe.
I have no student loans, live in a paid off house house in an awesome place that most dream about living at.
Some of my friends gave up on life and I have thrived, don’t give up, go for it, it gets better!

You're the smart one. Knock out the High School Plus courses (the first 2 years of college in the USA) at a much lower cost. Then transfer to a University and finish there. You'll save $30-40 thousand right off the top.

You are smart , they will rack up debt they will never pay off if they live to be 100
My friend is a plumber and he makes $100,000 a year . Your friends may make $$75,000 but I'll have huge debt

I know a few people in your shoes, you should be proud of what you’re doing. Chances are u will lose touch with some old friends, make new ones. If a “friend” is critical of your education path you need to dump them. And as other posters said you won’t be saddled with as much debt. It is what u make of it.

Do the 2 years at CC, then transfer to a state university. It’s cheaper that way, and you probably qualify for all sorts of aid.

The best high achievers go to Harvard and Yale and Stanford.
