Fuck customer service.
I don’t know when society decided that when you go out anywhere you have to be put on a pedestal and treated like a fucking god but I’m so sick of this shit. It’s made people so entitled.
I’m in school and working as a barista *and* as a host in a decent restaurant, so it feels like I’m paying for my own education just to get out of this daily cycle of being shit on for money. That’s all I do. I make drinks, I seat people, I get shit on by the people I’m *serving*. At least speak to me like I’m a human being.
When you come in and I ask how you are it’s because I am genuinely asking how your day is going, trying to make conversation and connect with you. And 9/10 times what I hear back is “Large, light and sweet.” (and I don’t even work at a Dunkin Donuts, they just don’t even bother to see the milk and sugar set up at the counter next to them) or “2. Booth.” It’s fucking rude and it’s degrading. I’m only 22 and feel so beaten down and hopeless when it comes to all the people around me. I don’t see any way out of it either, at least not until I’m done with school and can begin my career- where I plan to be a teacher that will likely be disrespected by his students every day.
I just try to treat everyone with as much respect as possible and expect the same. I get that people have their own issues that make them cold and they aren’t concerned about the feelings of this one guy at this one restaurant, but jesus christ at least say hello before you give me orders. I just wish we had one day of the year where we aren’t bound by this weird hierarchy and I can tell people that the way they speak to people like me is degrading and really impacts a lot us on a psychological level.
