For the longest time, for the American grading system, I believed 'A' stood for average.
It really messed me up when the highest grade I could get was an average and I never felt like I accomplished anything even when I was at the top of my class. It brought me a lot of stress, wanting to get A+ because then I thought I could be high average. I think it was either a teacher who told us (as a joke, I don't know) or a parent because I didn't talk to other kids for the longest time. I was too focused on my schoolwork to try to socialize and no matter how hard I tried, I felt like I just couldn't make it because I was only making Average.
